A slave woman tells of the naming of Catherine’s Peak and the erasure of the achievements of Black Jamaicans in the field of natural history. A mystic takes us back to the Spanish occupation. The maroons Juan de Bolas and Juan de Serras grieve their fate and the tragic future that came with sugarcane. Drawing on the island location of the exhibition and its explorations of justice and freedom with men incarcerated at HMP Portland, students spent the week as artists, exploring the complicated issue of how we should treat people who might have hurt others. Through island-dreaming, fables, manifesto-making, and populating the island with people, places, plants, and buildings, the students used art to imagine the kind of world we want to live in. The book showcases their collaborative work and the discussions that took place. At its forefront is Eyal Weizman, a British Israeli architect.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBorn in 1970 in Haifa, Weizman studied at the Architectural Association in London before gaining international recognition with an exhibition of models of Jewish settlements built in the occupied Palestinian territories.
